Sales of Goods Act (2012 and 1979) :

  • All goods must be of �satisfactory quality� meaning they can�t be damaged or broken.
  • All goods must be as described by the advertisement
  • All goods must be fit for the purpose for which they were intended
  • If any of these conditions are not met, a business must either return the customer their money or give them a replacement.

Weights and Measures Act (1985) :

  • Goods must contain the amount that it is labelled to contain

Unsolicited Goods Act (1971) :

  • It is illegal to demand payment for services that have not been ordered by the customer

What happens if a business breaks the Law? - The business will be taken to court, if they are found to be guilty it can be fined and the people responsible could be imprisoned.

ASA (Advertising Standards Authority) - regulates advertising in the UK to make sure no business is breaking any laws.
